School Programs Home

Karoonda Park's School Camp Programs were established in 1976 by Paul and Judi Sykes. Our extensive range of both on-camp and expedition style activities are completely operated "in-house" by our dedicated Outdoor Education Coordinator Lynton Hill. He is a qualified Teacher and Outdoor Educator and instructs in a full range outdoor pursuits.

We are flexible with what can be offered. One day to week long programs are available. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Attending staff members need to have read the Group Staff Handbook before bringing students on camp. It provides all the general information regarding your visit to Karoonda Park including accommodation lists. The Group Staff Handbook, sample medical forms, Camp Booking form and General Conditions for Hire agreement can be found in the documents tab.

Karoonda Park is dedicated to providing a formative experience in the outdoors that challenges the student in a holistic sense and is sensitive to each individuals comfort zones and competence.   We believe it is important to provide challenge to facilitate personal growth and self-understanding. However we are sensitive to what your student is comfortable with and will not put them in situations that are unduly uncomfortable for them in an emotional or physical sense.
It is important to provide experiential educational experiences that are unobtainable in the classroom.
  • This is facilitated by incorporating aspects of the natural environment in our local area. Eg, trips to the Snowy River and rafting at Willis, Trail riding though the bush and abseiling at a natural cliff.

  • By creating circumstances and situations where interaction within the group is encouraged, eg camping together, participation in activities

  • Creating a “safe” environment in a physical, mental and emotional sense where individuals are empowered to realize their potential.

  • Testing personal boundaries eg, making it over the edge on the abseiling cliff while grappling with a fear of heights, riding a horse, or even camping in a tent for the first time.
